Is Jordan safe for travel? That was the question I was constantly asked before my trip in November 2024. And YES, Jordan is safe. I felt completely safe the entire time. There is hardly any violent crime and it will be extremely hard to find a report of something happening to a tourist. I felt much safer in Jordan than I do in the United States as well as some European cities. Everyone is so friendly and they are truly invested in you enjoying their country.

Decrease in Tourism: Is Jordan Safe for Travel?
There has been a huge decrease in tourism and I discussed this with multiple tour guides during my stay. Most people said there has been a 70% decrease in tourism. A lot of the sites were pretty empty when I was there and they really appreciate the tourists who are still visiting and spending their money there. Many people have cancelled travel plans because they did not feel Jordan is safe for travel.

Group or Solo Travel?
On this trip, I signed up for a group travel tour through Travel Talk Tours. It was very organized and I had an excellent tour guide. It definitely made it easier to travel throughout Jordan. You can read about my weeklong itinerary here.
That being said, I would absolutely travel to Jordan solo. I truly feel like Jordan is safe for travel as a solo female. You could rent a car, pay for a driver, or check out bus schedules to get around Jordan. You can use BusBud to check out bus schedules. From Amman to Petra, it is around $26 USD.
Overall Thoughts: Is Jordan Safe for Travel?
I had an incredible trip and would not hesitate to go again. Jordan is safe for travel and you would not even know what is happening outside its borders if you aren’t watching the news. Petra is one of my favorite places in the world and everyone should see it in their lifetime. I loved staying the night in the Wadi Rum desert and watching the colors change from sunrise to sunset. I had excellent hospitality and I am so glad I ignored the negative comments and went ahead with my plans.
