Bangkok is one of those cities that has so many unique neighborhoods, that it can be hard to figure out where to stay. Some areas are modern and with massive malls, while others are packed with historic charm and street food. If you’re trying to figure out where to stay in Bangkok, here’s a breakdown based on my trip, plus where I’d choose if I went back.

Where I Stayed in Bangkok: Siam (Central & Convenient)
During my trip, I stayed in the Siam area, which is one of the most central and convenient locations in Bangkok.
I stayed at the Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok and absolutely loved it. The hotel itself is modern and they had a beautiful rooftop infinity pool. I have platinum status with my IHG Premier credit card so I was actually upgraded to an amazing one-bedroom suite that even had in-unit laundry. The views from my room were stunning, especially at night.
Staying in Siam puts you near shopping malls, Lumphini Park, and public transportation.

Where I’d Stay Next Time: Chinatown (Song Wat Road Area)
Now, if I could do it all over again, I would choose to stay in Chinatown, specifically around Song Wat Road.
Even though I didn’t stay here, I spent time exploring it, and it completely won me over.
The Food Scene is Unreal
This area has some of the best food in Bangkok. I highly recommend taking this food tour in Chinatown. We tried so many different dishes, from savory to sweet, and everything was delicious.
Artsy + Trendy Vibes
Song Wat Road has this cool, creative energy:
- Boutique shops
- Cozy coffee spots
- Local charm
Unique Shopping Finds
This is also a great place to shop for:
- Local artisan goods
- Unique souvenirs
- Perfumes
It’s the kind of neighborhood where you’ll stumble upon things you didn’t even know you were looking for. Fair warning, it can get busy here at night, but I found it easy to escape crowds by just walking a few blocks away.
Hotels in Chinatown: Where to Stay in Bangkok
Loy La Long Hotel is a beautiful boutique hotel right on the river. The views from the rooms are amazing.
Shanghai Mansion Bangkok is another unique hotel in Chinatown.
Final Thoughts: Where to Stay in Bangkok
If you’re trying to decide where to stay in Bangkok, here’s the quick takeaway:
- Stay in Siam if you want convenience, shopping, and easy transportation
- Stay in Chinatown (Song Wat Road) if you want culture, incredible food, and a trendy neighborhood
You really can’t go wrong, but if I had to choose again, Chinatown would be my pick for a better experience.
