Ever had a long layover and wished you could turn it into a mini vacation? A few airlines actually make that possible. Some even give you a free hotel stay or a deeply discounted stopover just for flying with them. Here are three airline stopover programs that are absolutely worth knowing about!

Turkish Airlines Stopover – Free Hotel or City Tour
Turkish Airlines takes stopovers to the next level. If you’re flying economy class, you can get one free night in a hotel during your stopover in Istanbul. If you’re in business class, you’ll get two free nights.
Have a shorter layover? You can still take advantage of their complimentary city tour, which includes transportation and a guide to show you Istanbul’s highlights. You’ll be able to see some of the most iconic sites and even sample some Turkish food. This is one of the best value-added perks in international travel, especially if you’ve never been to Turkiye.
Qatar Airways – Discounted Stopover Hotels in Doha
Qatar Airways doesn’t offer a free hotel stay, but their stopover program in Doha is still a steal. With the Discover Qatar Stopover program, you can book a luxury hotel stay starting at just $14 per night — for up to four nights. It’s a great way to explore Doha’s futuristic skyline, desert landscapes, and souks without spending much extra.
Etihad Airways – Up to Two Free Hotel Nights in Abu Dhabi
Etihad offers what I consider to be the best stopover program out there. If your flight connects in Abu Dhabi, you can qualify for up to two free hotel nights at select properties. That means instead of spending your layover in the airport, you could be exploring the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque or relaxing at the beach, all for free.

Why You Should Take Advantage of Airline Stopover Programs
Stopover programs are one of the most underrated travel hacks. They let you break up long haul flights and offer you the chance to see two countries instead of one. Next time you’re booking an international trip, check if your airline offers a stopover program and extend your trip for free!
